Guess Who's Back......Evan's Back

Welcome back. It's August so I know I'm late but better late than never. Either way I've been slacking. Both in the Quantity of my blog post and Quality.
Yeah I feel I need an improvement. So I'm gonna try the best I can to get better at these reviews. Make them more entertaining and more descriptive. It's still relatively early in the series (I mean I've only done like 5 reviews) so there's plenty of time for improvement. Games are a big part of my life and I feel I could talk about them much better than I've done in the last few reviews.
On another note I have reviews #6-9 planned out and have had them planned out for some time now.

6-Front Line (Atari 2600)
7-Sonic Labyrinth (Game Gear)
8-Kirby's Dreamland (Gameboy)
9-Super Smash Bros. (N64)

As for the 10th I know what I'm gonna do for it but it's a surprise. :p
Anyway hope you enjoy the new content. Thanks for reading, peace.

Gameboy/Gameboy Color Review List

This is a list of all my Gameboy and Gameboy Color Reviews. I'll leave a link to each review and as I review more games I'll update the list. Thanks

#1-Castlevania The Adventure(Gameboy)

Castlevania The Adventure-Retro Review #5-Gameboy Review #1

At least the box art is cool.,

Good God, this game. Ugh, why now.
I mean you though uncanny x-men was bad. This is much worse.
I mean that sincerely. I can't believe this game has the audacity to even be a part of the same franchise as such classics like the original Castlevania, and Super Castlevania.
I mean it this is so far the second worst thing I've ever had to review, only behind Wizard of Oz on the SNES.
What are we waiting for let's get to the actual game.

Story
Back in the beginning of the gameboys life span a very popular trend was to take a popular NES game and make it portable. Megaman, bubble bobble, and even Mario are a few examples of this.
Sometimes they would be advertised as remakes or completely different game. Since the gameboy had more limitations than the NES they would sometimes have to completely redesign the game.
Castlevania The Adventure is Konamis attempt to bringing the classic game to a portable system.
Of course though they had to completely redesign it and make a completely new game.
I wouldn't mind so much except this game sucks as I mentioned multiple times.
In this game you play as Christopher Belmont and like in the original your goal is to defeat Dracula.
This was made shortly after Castlevania 2 and since konami didn't pay vey much attention to the timeline back then if your trying to play through the castlevania games in chronological order then it might get messy.
But let's get into the actual game.

Gameplay
The gameplay here does everything wrong. Christopher moves so slow that it's excruciating. No joke. Because of the slow pace of the game everything just seems so tedious and monotonous. Pretty much all you do in this game is walk around, kill stuff, and occasionally climb up stuff.
Now yes all you really did in the original castlevania was walk and kill stuff but that game was fast paced and fun, this........this is awfully boring and tedious.
The controls suck as well. It's just so awkward moving Christopher around.
Jumping is pain as well. You got to be so precise and it's just awful. Yes, the controls are even
worse then the original. Way worse. In fact this is probably the worst controlling game in the castlevania series.
It's also unfair. Sometimes when you are climbing up a rope and eyeball will fall down while your on the rope and you have no time to dodge. But that's only one example. Controls also cause a few cheap moments since Christopher moves so slowly.
The level design is also bland and boring.
Overall this is a monotonous, tedious and unfair games

Gameplay Score-2.5/10

Sound
The sound is ok. The music in this game is pretty good. Maybe it's not as good as the original but that doesn't matter.
The music is still good and enjoyable to listen to.

Sound Score-7/10

Graphics

For a gameboy game it looks pretty good. Nothing to special but it is nicely detailed and looks pretty nice. Doesn't quit capture the gothic feel of the original but I it doesn't matter.

Graphics Score-7/10

Enjoyment
This game was not enjoyable at all. I hated it. From the characters monotonous controls to the poor level design to the cheap difficulty. This game suck. It's awful. Absolutely awful. There just nothing else that can be said about it. Screw this game.

Enjoyment Score-3/20
Overall-19.5/50
39%.   F

Yeah. This game definitely deserves that score. It only barely got a higher score than a Wizard of Oz. Wizard of Oz had a score of 16/50 which is a 32%(I may be wrong about the score wizard of Oz got as I'm mostly remembering off the top of my head). I'm pretty sure this game would be the same score as wizard of Oz if it wasn't for me giving it higher scores in the graphics and sound category than wizard of Oz. Yeah this game is bad. But it's not wizard of Oz bad.
With that said thank you for reading and sorry this took so long to post. I've been busy with a few projects for YouTube.
I may just decide to screw the schedule and post these blog post whenever I finish one, but for now I'll keep trying to get one out every week.

With that said see you next Friday.
=)

Uncanny X-Men-Retro Review #4-NES Review #2

Ah fudge. Well looks as if I have no choice. I have to review this game. This game sucks ,it straight up sucks. This game for those of you unaware was made by LJN made infamous by a certain Angry Video Game Nerd for producing low quality movie tie in games for the NES and other consoles around at that time. Now I don't think LJN completely deserves their awful reputation. Of coarse they do make a lot of crap like this but a lot of their games are just plain and mediocre not really bad. At
least that's how I see it.

Without a doubt though this is their worst game. It is absolutely horrendous.
Say what you want about Back to The Future, Jaws, or Beetlejuice this is LJN's Worst game.
Let's dive in  to the uncanny x-men shall we.

Story
I don't know. I don't care.

All I can say is that you have the choice to play as 6 x-men
Cyclops, iceman, wolverine, storm, colossus and night crawler.
You gotta stop magneto and save the world. I'm sure there's more info in the manual but really I don't care enough to read it.
But whatever what's get into what actually makes this game a piece of crap.

Gameplay
The gameplay for Uncanny X-Men uses a top-down perspective.
You go through the level trying to get to the end and while your at it kick some bad guy butt.
Sounds simple enough. How did they screw it up you ask.
Well let me tell you.
First the level design is awful. It's not fun or interesting or charming or anything. It's bland and poorly designed.
Second the AI. In this game when you have the option to play with somebody else(that is if you can
actually find somebody to play this crap with you)
Whenever you don't have a second player around the game gives you an computer player to help you
out. This would be fine and dandy if the AI wasn't so bad. This computer character does nothing to
help. In fact in the first few seconds he'll either die or get stuck. He doesn't even try to attack
enemies. He/she is absolutely pointless.
Third is the character. The characters in this game are all the same.
Well I shouldn't say they are all the same. There are two types of characters.
Type A:Physical Attackers
Examples:Wolverine, colossus, and night crawler

Type B:Long Range Attackers
Examples:Cyclopes, Storm, and Iceman.

All the type A characters are exactly the same and all the type B characters are exactly the same.  Ok, there's a few exceptions for example night crawler can walk through solid objects but that's not enough. There needs to be more to not make make every character look like a clone.
They even give you different stats for each character on the character selection screen.
Those stats are complete lies just to make it look like the characters are different.
So there you have it. Bad A.I, Bad level design, bad design in general. It suck

Gameplay Score-4/10

Sound
Honestly nothing in this game in terms of sound is memorable.
Nothing good nor nothing bad.

Sound Score-5/10

Graphics

The graphics are bad.
The colors are so bland and everything just looks awful(Even by NES standards)
Not a whole lot to say here.

Graphics Score-4/10

Enjoyment
I really don't enjoy this game a whole lot.
Not the worst game but not really that good either.
It's bad but with a few fixes it could land on the meh side of things.

Enjoyment Score-8.5/20

Overall-21.5/50
43%.    F

So yeah that's uncanny x-men on NES.
Bad game but with a few fixes could be raised to a D or even a C.
But to bad you can't fix products that were released all the way back in the 80s.

I honestly didn't expect to get this review done so early so I guess this Friday I'll have another review up.
That one will be part of the same franchise as a previous game I already played but is not any where as good.

See you then.

Update-April 21st 2015

It's been awhile hasn't it. Sorry for the lack of updates I just have a lot of crap going on in my life. But most of it is taking care of so I'm gonna start opting more regularly.
Every Friday will be a new post. Weather it's a retro review or a top list or just something else.
So this Friday I should have my uncanny x-men review done.
I am also working on reviews for Castlevania The adventure, Front Line, and The original Super Smash Bros.

I'm also gonna be doing a review on Shovel Knight(Not a retro game but it's retro style so...)

Anyway see you guys soon.

#1-Pokemon Snap

Pokemon Snap-Retro Review #3-N64 Review #1

We've dealt with the original Nintendo System the NES.
We've dealt with the more super version the Super Nintendo
Now it's time to round out this trilogy of retro nintendo consoles and talk about the N64.
Ah, so many good memories lie with this console.
But enough about that we need to get cracking on this review, especially since it's been 4 months since my last one. It been so long in fact I had to go back to my past blog post to remind myself how I score the game.
Was that a useless plug. Ah whatever. On to today's game Pokemon snap.

Story-The Story of the game is simple. You play as a boy named todd who's goal is to take a picture of the elusive Pokemon Mew. Prof. Oak also wants you to snap a picture of every Pokemon on Pokemon island. So yay it's a game about picture taking. Doesn't sound to fun but you'll be surprised.

Gameplay
This game is an on rail picture taking game. You don't move your character instead the vehicle your in move you around the level and all you have to do is snap pictures of Pokemon. Your goal is to take a picture of every Pokemon in the level. However you don't have to to complete the game. You
advance levels by finding hidden passage ways or by getting a certain amount of points from the
professor. You see oak give every Pokemon picture you decide to show him a score and it's fun trying to rank up the highest score you can for each Pokemon. If you get a certain amount of points with
your pictures you oak will allow you to visit a new area or give you an item. (like a poke ball filled
with poison that knocks Pokemon out. Not only that though oak give extra points for Pokemon
knocked out). There are many ways to gain and lose points and like I said its fun trying to get the highest amount of points possible for each Pokemon. Now I know taking pictures of Pokemon doesn't sound like the most fun. It it still is pretty fun. And that's mostly due to how incredible the levels are designed. They look great and make you wanna look and explore around them. They're just fun to go through. I gotta say it's also kind of cool seeing Pokemon just chilling in their natural habitats. Not in any kind of battle at all. Plus as I said the game really makes you wanna get the highest score for each Pokemon, and snap pictures of them all. So yeah the gameplay is pretty good. It's just a laid back calming experience with a calming atmosphere to top it off.
Gameplay Score-7/10

Looks

The game looks pretty good. Nothing special but the Pokemon models look great and so do the anime looking humans. By N64 standards it good. Even though the n64 was the awkward polygonal 3d stage for gaming it's not really to polygonal and the levels and 3d models all look pretty nice

Looks Score-7/10

Sound
The sound is ok. There are a few memorable tracks but even those are just meh. It's a calm game so I don't expect music I can rock out to but I still expect tracks that while keeping the calm atmosphere
still sound good. This games music does keep the atmosphere but the music is just dull overall.
There are also a few brief voice clips for oak every now and then. They sound pretty good

Sound Score-5.5/10

Enjoyment
I really enjoyed Snap. It was a fun interesting and calming experience. It made me wanna take as many Pokemon pictures as I could, and discover all the secrets of Pokemon island.
This is a perfect example of a game with a concept that doesn't sound good and making a good game out of it.

Enjoyment score-15.5/20

Overall-35/50.     70%-C

Oh, just barely misses out on getting a D. Well then. I do think this game is a truly fun game though and I recommend that you check it out. Weather your a fan of Pokemon or not.
It definitely deserves a higher score than 70 percent, but whatever I'm not going to change my previous scores for each category just so the game will get a higher percentage. (That would be cheating)
Hope you enjoyed my epic return. See you guys next time which hopefully won't be in 4 months but thanks for reading. Next time I'll be dealing with an NES game that's about superheroes but in reality is just pure evil.
See you guys then.

It's Been Awhile

Hey guys Evan here and I really want to apologize for taking 4 months to update this blog.
